Advisory

I serve on the advisory board of a few startups.

An innovative, social value startup, OpenAction. It connects people to the projects they care about. OpenAction helps organisations and entrepreneurs communicate their impact easier and more effectively. The goal is to help create that everlasting emotional connection and get people more involved.

A Caribbean based Cloud computing IT solutions provider, CloudCarib. It provides a core focus on Infrastructure and application virtualization with engineering perfection, serving customers throughout the Caribbean region.

A Silicon Valley based startup, currently in stealth mode, which aims to disrupt the mobile e-commerce market.

Technology Forecasting

I provide consultancy services for the virtual think tank, TechCast, a unique technology forecasting service that cumulates and curates the knowledge of more than 100 world experts in all technology fields. TechCast's technology forecasts have been published in scientific journals, widely reported in the media, and used by clients around the globe.

Technology Innovation

I provide technology innovation consultancy at the leading global technology powerhouse, RICOH. I work at the forefront of technological innovations and align them with business needs. I am in a multi-faceted niche role that includes, amongst other things, liaising with global R&D and coordinating technology innovation strategies; consulting, and capturing latent needs and requirements from global customers; business processes design and re-engineering; provide thought leadership and strategic insight at various corporate and public events.

Cases on Semantic Interoperability for Information Systems Integration

I edited a book on state-of-the-art collections of specialized work in the field of semantic interoperability. The book is available from October 2009, from IGI publisher. The book provides an in-depth analysis of issues involved with the application of semantic interoperability to information assimilation tasks followed by field professionals. This significant collection of research explains in-depth issues involved the integration of large amounts of heterogeneous information and points to deficiencies of current systems.

"This book brings together some of the best current thinking on the conceptual foundations and domain-specific practices of semantic interoperability. It is an essential resource for all those concerned with resolving the problem of semantic heterogeneity."
Peter E. Hart, Ricoh Innovations, Inc., California

 Advanced Knowledge Technologies (AKT)

I was a Senior Researcher in AKT; an internationally renowned consortium of five leading UK universities with funding form the UK Government to conduct advanced research and development in knowledge management. This seven year interdisciplinary research collaboration led to advances in the science of the Web, provided the foundations for many of today’s Semantic Web technologies and explored the application of semantic technologies in many and diverge business contexts. In AKT, I got involved in many and diverse projects applying AI and knowledge engineering to Semantic Web; but my acclaimed expertise is on semantic interoperability and integration, ontology mapping, and knowledge services on the Web. These days, I continue my involvement with these state-of-the-art technology front from my capacity as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow.

International Technology Alliance (ITA)

I was a Senior Researcher in ITA; an International Technology Alliance programme between the UK and US Government involving twenty four academic and industrial organisations from both nations, sponsored by the US Army Research Laboratory and UK Ministry of Defense under the overall management of IBM. I extended my work on semantic integration in the context of dynamically networked virtual environments for theatres of operations.

Capturing, Representing and Operationalising Semantic Interoperability

I was the Principal Investigator in an industrially funded project on semantic integration, CROSI. In CROSI we developed and released an open source ontology mapping system, CMS.

Deploying Ontologies in Software Design

That was my PhD project! I was awarded funding form the European Commission to conduct Artificial Intelligence research in the context of applying Ontologies in software design. This intense three year project led to a dozen of publications and a novel application of AI technology to software engineering.
